Car Description

Recognizing the need to be competitive in the emerging sports car market, Ford introduced the Thunderbird in 1955 as a direct answer to Chevrolet’s Corvette. Although similar in size, the major difference was that the Thunderbird was more comfortable than the Corvette, which made it a pleasure to drive. While Chevrolet was trying sell leftover Corvettes from 1954, Ford’s Thunderbird was almost driving itself off the showroom floors. With its sleek styling and V-8 power, the public couldn’t get enough of Ford’s new wonder car. Perhaps the success of the Thunderbird was found in the fact that it wasn’t marketed as a sports car, but rather as a “personal luxury” car, a niche that had previously been undefined in the U.S. automobile market. Under the current owner’s care for the last five years, this iconic Torch Red T-Bird has been lovingly cared for. A favorite vehicle for him and his wife, it was always kept in driving order in his five years of ownership. Work performed under his care entails rebuilding the power steering control valve, carburetor, radiator, and speedometer, replacing the brake master cylinder and battery, as well as mounting four new Coker Classic wide whitewall tires for a smooth ride. Its well-maintained paint and chrome are complemented by 15-inch chrome wire wheels. The white top was replaced a little over five years ago but does show slight signs of wear and use. The cabin has also been well-maintained, with many of the trim pieces being replaced and new upholstery being laid on the bench seat within the last five years. The 312-cubic-inch V-8 engine is backed by a three-speed manual transmission. Furthering its drivability and desirability, this American classic is equipped with Swift Sure Ford factory power brakes, Ford Master Guide power steering, upgraded electric fuel pump, upgraded 12-volt battery system, and an updated radio with an auxiliary auto cable plug-in. Items included with the sale are an original owner’s manual and 1955 Ford repair manual. Power to spare with a good dose of comfort, this T-Bird makes for a pleasure to drive. Ford created something special with the first-generation Thunderbird and its two-seat configuration; this example with its dedication to authenticity and charming characteristics, proves to be a solid example of one of America’s most iconic automobiles. This 1955 Ford Thunderbird is located in Auburn, Indiana, which is centrally located and a short drive from Indianapolis, Indiana, Detroit, Michigan, Chicago, Illinois, and Cleveland, Ohio. Image
